Six Slippery Sins: Good Advice that Goes Astray

Track:

Craft of Writing

From:

To:

SATURDAY

Live, Q&A

Addition Info:

Often what we think we know just isn't true. "Common knowledge" about fiction can deaden our stories, including time-honored advice like start fast and get to the point in dialogue. We'll take a fresh look at "vivid" descriptions, and how "showing" sadness can end up distancing a reader by "telling." For writers at all levels, this class examines the deeper truths suggested by, or obscured by, fiction maxims.

Welcome to PNWA's Writer's 2020 Contest Award's Celebration for published and unpublished authors.
Our unpublished contest is designed to help authors shape their story and improve their craft with the goal of publication.
Authors receive two critiques, and as finalists, the opportunity to have their entry read by agents and editors.

Our published contest is the Nancy Pearl, named for the renowned librarian and award winning author, Nancy Pearl. Nancy Pearl received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association for her support of readers. All entries in the Nancy Pearl contest are read, and judged, by local librarians.

The winners in both contests receive monetary prizes.

Join us as we celebrate our contest finalists and winners. Find us on FaceBook at https://www.facebook.com/pacificnorthwestwritersassociation
